There
are some things in life that you just don't do so when the wife
phones up and says "I've just been talking to Denise and
theres a rally we both fancy" you don't say no. Never being
one to look a gift horse in the mouth I started thinking about
Great Yarmouth, Llandudno or one of the more local rallies on
at the start of the season. "oh right where's that then"
I said trying hard not to sound too enthusiastic, I did'nt want
it counting as one of my rallies. This was definitley one for
Lynda. "Benalmadena" she said, now being a truck driver
and a scooterist for a number of years I soon figured out that
this was somewhere south of Brighton! "I was hoping to
go to Yarmouth" I said. I could feel my nose growing already!
After a couple of seconds I gave in and said yes that sounded
very nice and for this year i wouldn't mind missing camping
in the snow in Yarmouth and heading for a 4 star hotel on the
Costa Del Sol.Sometimes you have to make the odd sacrifice!
Over the next couple of weeks or so the word went around to
find out who else may be interested and we finally ended up
with a party of eight. All we had to do now was get through Christmas,
New Year and Easter and then we could start looking forward
to it.
Its
amazing how quick the time goes by and before we knew it the
time to gowas on us, 6 of us on an afternoon flight from East
Mids with Ray & Claire having gone earlier in the day, Ray
will have the beer in for us when we get
there we said! With no problems at either Airport we were soon
on the way to the hotel to meet up with our advance party and
enjoy a beer or two, Ray already had!
There was no do on the Thursday night so it was a case of visiting
the bars in the local area and having a few relaxed beers or
in my case lots of whisky as well. Some may say we kicked the
arse out of it on the first night, personally I thought it was
a useful loosener to prepare us for what was to come. The other
scooterists scattered around
the local bars seemed to be on pretty much the same stategy!
After
a good breakfast and a day spent in recovery mode by the hotel
pool, which was should we say quite bracing or even f**king
cold, I had a game of hide and seek going on in my swimming
shorts and could'nt find a thing, it was time to get sorted
and ready for the first of the night do's at the Bonanza Bar.
On the first night it was a DJ event with well known rally regulars
Emma Cox, resplendent in shimmering pink, Andy from SWS and
I think Terry Walters although by then alcohol was having its
usual effect and all I can really remember is we had a good
time.
The
second night saw a covers band playing everything from The Who
to The Sex Pistols and a mighty fine job they did of it to!
Whilst on the third and final night we had an Elvis tribute
to entertain us and that he certainly did with the help of an
SWS Elvis impersonator. Two for the price of one! Now to be
fair to him he said from the very start that the more we drank
the better he would get, I have to say he was'nt wrong but we
all had a mighty fine night. As a thank you to everyone who
attended the organisers, from SWS, treated us all to a cocktail
and very nice it was! Would we do it again? Absolutley! The
eight of us that went from the B5000 said to a man (and woman)
that if its on next year we're going! Don't know if it will
be though because SWS are organising Las Vegas next year so
it may be that Benalmadena is off the circuit for at least 12
months. |
