The
B5000 scooter club was originally formed in 1983 by a group of scooter
riding mates in the village of polesworth on the outskirts of tamworth,the
main road which run through polesworth is the B5000 and that is where
the name of the club originates from.
The club used to put on disco's back then at polesworth working mens
club,known then as the top club these events were popular around the
area and became the focal point for local scooterists.
Many members of the club regularly attended the seaside scooter rallies
that were part of every scooterists calender on either their vespa's
or lambretta's.
As with a lot of the scooter clubs of that era,members lives and responsibilities
cahanged and the club went into a period of hibernation,howerver during
2004 people who had not seen each other,in some cases for years,got
back together and found that some of them were still riding there
scooters and other wished they were!! A tenertive meeting was held
in the red lion public house in polesworth,to gauge the enthusiasm
for resurrecting the club,due to the amount of people in attendance
it was decided to progress on to a formal meeting at dordon WMC before
which the word was passed around the local scooter fraterninty.
By the time the meeting at dordon WMC came around in excess of 20
people turned up,lots of talking was done,ideas discussed and plans
to take the club forward formulated.The club is now a mixture of origional
B5000,s and newer members who have been members of other scooter clubs
or have moved into the area and until now never been a member of any
scooter clubs.
From the beginning the clubs pre season do for the 2005 season was
attended by 200 people with members from other clubs in attendance,all
entertained by local mod band the pinch and back then B5000's answer
to fat boy slim,knobby,on the decks.
Since then the club has grown with a near total of 60 members men
and women,still new and old members are joining,we have had many good
nights put on by the B5000 SC with popular bands,including ultimate
madness,The pinch,dc fontana,The tonics,Special Brew,The hero's and
many more!!
The club does arrange to go on scooter rallies,local rideouts,and
on midland scooters organised rideouts,also to other scooter club's
arranged do's.
The club meets normally the 1st sunday of every month (unless stated
on the website http://www.b5000scooterclub.com/ ) at the polesworth
sports and social club formally known as The Top Club,anyone who may
be intrested in the club are welcome to come along!
