1) HI GUYS, I RIDE A GILERA RUNNERvx 125 WHICH IVE OWNED FOR 3 YEARS NOW AND SHES NEVER LET ME DOWN ONCE, BUT I THINK ITS AGE IS CATCHING HER UP, IM INTERESTED IN JUICING THINGS UP A LITTLE IN THE ENGINE DEPT, BUT IM AFTER FINDING OUT WHICH IS THE BEST KIT TO ADD TO IT, AND COULD YOU LET ME KNOW WHAT EXHAUST TO BUY FOR MY BABY, AND CAN YOU GUYS RECOMMENDED A DECENT DEALER TO PURCHASE THEM FROM?

KEVIN SAMUELS, IPSWICH.

Hi Kevin

I would recommend buying a malossi 210cc kit and a gear up kit.

The malossi 210 kit will give you a massive increase in power and the gear up kit will give you a higher top end speed.

Both of these kits are available from psn scooters in batley.

2) HELLO ISANET IM AFTER SOMEONE LETTING ME KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY SCOOT, I RIDE A PEUGEOT SPEEDFIGHTER 100 ITS BEEN PLAYIN UP, ITS LOOSING POWER ITS STARTS FINE THEN AS IT GETS WARM IT SEEMS TO LOSE POWER IVE HAD IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND ITS THE SAME AS IT WAS WHEN I TOOK IT INTO THEM, THEYVE SAID THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING AND CANT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, BUT I KNOW ITS NOT RIGHT ,CAN YOU HELP ME, IT STARTS FINE, RUNS FINE BUT SEEMS TO BE REALLY SLOW AND SLUGGISH, HELP ME THANKS

DEAN CUMMINGS, TORQUAY.

Hi Dean

By what you are saying I am presuming it is an air cooled model.

If so the problem is usually that the piston and rings are a little worn and are in need of replacing. because what happens is when the engine gets hot it expands and if the piston rings are worn they let compression pass the rings but when its cold the engine is in effect tighter therefore the piston and rings fit tighter into the barrel and less compression can get past.

So I would suggest a new set of piston and rings or at least a set of piston rings.

3) HI CAN YOU TELL ME WHICH IS THE BEST KIT TO PURCHASE FOR MY ITALJET DRAGSTER 180, PLUS WITH BUYING ABETTER KIT WILL I HAVE TO UP GRADE THE VARIATORS AND BELT AND WILL IT RUN JUST AS GOOD WITH THE CARB THATS ON IT , OR WOULD I BE BETTER OFF BUYING A BIGGER CARB AND EXHAUST, IF SO WHICH WOULD YOU SUGGEST AND WHAT SORT OF SHILLING`S AM I LOOKING AT.

CHEERS LADS ,MIKE, NANTWICH.

Hi Mike

I wouldn’t bother buying a kit at all for your 180 dragster unless your barrel and piston are worn because there’s nothing wrong with a 180 dragster.

If you are looking to get more power out of your engine then here’s a few tips.

Fit a malossi 172 cylinder head a dellorto 25mm carb and a malossi Kevlar drive belt and a polini exhaust.

For prices go to www.ve-uk.co.uk

4) I RIDE A TGB 50 RX, ID LIKE TO KNOW IF I BUY A NEW EXHAUST WHAT WILL BE THE BEST,IVE BEEN TOLD THAT IF I BUY A NEW EXHAUST FOR IT IT WILL INCREASE PERFOMANCE, IS THIS TRUE AND WHAT ELSE WILL INCREASE THE PERFORMANCE?

STEVE, LINCOLN.

Hi Steve

Firstly yes a new exhaust will improve performance providing you get a proper performance exhaust like malossi or polini but these are usually made for racing and are not usually road leagal.

If your scooter is still restricted a great deal of the restriction is in the exhaust so replacing it will get rid of that problem.

The next item you should look at is the variator there is usually a small spacer which restricts the amount of movement the variator can travel so removing this will give you loads more power and better top end but the other option is to replace the variator with an after market one from malossi or polini and the come with rollers that will help get more performance out of your exhaust.

The next item you could upgrade it the cylinder itself this it the single most important item you can change to give you more power by replacing your 50cc cylinder with a 70cc cylinder once again available from malossi or polini through www.ve-uk.co.uk but once again beware of voiding your insurance.

If you decide to replace the cylinder then you will need a bigger carburettor available from the same place.

5) HI GUYS, I RIDE A GILERA RUNNER, BUT FOR THE LAST 3WEEKS IVE BEEN LISTENING TO A WHINNING NOISE COMING FROM THE CASING, IT GETS LOUDER AS THE SCOOT GOES FASTER, ITS ALMOST LIKE A DINGING NOISE COMING FORM INSIDE THE ENGINE CASING, ANY IDEAS?

BUCKO, WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND.

Hi Bucko

First of all have you looked inside the casing to see if anything obvious is wrong (lets presume you have)

If you have looked then that rules out things like the variator coming loose and the kickstart cover coming loose.

So it’s more that likely you are in need of some new variator rollers and a drive belt.

You could also check to see if the rear torque driver is correctly lubricated.

Then check to see if the bearings are in good condition.

And make sure you tighten everything up properly.

6) HELLO , IM SENDING THIS E-MAIL TO ASK IF THERE IS A SPECIAL TOOL FOR TAKING OFF THE DRIVE BELT ON MY PIAGGIO VESPA GTS, ITS UP FOR DOING AS THE SCOOT SEEMS TO SNATCH WHEN PULLING OF, ON INSPECTION OF IT ,IT LOOKS LIKE ITS SEEN BETTER DAYS AS DOES THE ROLLERS, WHAT CAUSES THE WEAR AND TEAR OF THESE ITEMS, IM USUALLY A CAREFUL RIDER ,BUT THEY LOOK WORN AND TIRED, ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME WHEN TAKING THESE OF THE SCOOTER, IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR?

MR PETERS, DEVON.

HI Mr Peters

There is a special tool that holds the variator while you undo the nut in the center available through www.ve-uk.co.uk

The rollers and drive belt do wear out with use no matter if you are a gentle rider or an aggressive rider,in your user manual there will be guidelines as to when the rollers and belt should be changed but if you inspect them and there are flat spots on the variator rollers then change them and if you don’t know when the drive belt was last changed replace it.

Next check your clutch.

Look at it and see how much clutch pad is still left on it if its getting to within 2mm (similar to brake pads) and its looking rough then think about changing it.

If it looks ok then give it a good clean out get rid of all the old clutch pad dust.

When you take the items off make sure you place them in the order they were taken off ESPECIALLY THE SPACERS it is critical you replace the spacing exactly in the same place.

Apart from that there isn’t much to go wrong.
