Got
there in the usual PX way, i.e. only stopping for fuel and nutrition.
Passed a few Too Slow ones (TS1) on the way, did not spot any
Much better 22 (MB22) (maybe broken?) engined machines.
Weather
was terrific, turnout was lousy, Llandudno is not a bad place
to go for a few days and it’s not that far from the Midlands.
Good turnout from the Rutland crew, where was Nottingham and
Leicester? You can watch the football on TV in Wales too.
I
guess there were only approximately 500 scooters on a National
which is pretty poor. However, some real beauties were on show
outside the Cymru centre which was where the do was being held.
PX
is still the king of the rally scooters but the GTS is really
starting to catch up. Comfort, reliability, decent performance,
shame it’s pig ugly, mind the same was said about the
T5 mark 1 and now it’s a bit of an icon.
Friday
night had the Jam playing the old favourites, seemed to go down
well. Many people arriving late so the venue was quite empty.
Saturday
was like the Med not the Irish Sea, a few bare legs were spotted
by lunchtime, parts fair was full of the usual clothing and
nik nak stores, scooter build off seemed a bit pointless with
only 3 scooters all looking like chops with chrome, maybe I
missed the point, look at the pics and make up your own mind.
Was a great day for “cruising” up the prom, shirt
sleeves, sun and two stroke oil.
Camp
site was at the football ground which seemed to be better than
the average, reports of a karaoke mad Scotsman on the Sunday
morning was the only downside, never mind he was seen having
a breakfast of vodka on toast so he was at least happy. Due
to the Victorian weekend and lack of accommodation the campsite
was pretty full by the evening. Suggest a different weekend
is found next time because scooters are children of the 60’s
not 1860,s and there were thousands of them.
Saturday
evening was spent in the town centre lapping up the sun outside
the Palladium or the Carlton, at about 9, people made their
way to the venue.
Basket Case were Saturday nights entertainment – Great
musicians, spotless performance of punk and late 70’s
music (not sure about the balaclavas though). Everyone was up
dancing, moshing etc. – played the music that put you
back in your youth. Was still only quarter full, no queue for
beer, no trouble, great had alot of drinkl up Irish scooter
club enjoying the crack. My team Bolton avoided relegation so
after a great day it was time to get wasted.
Sunday
saw everyone pack up early and leave before the rain and nothing
seemed to be arranged/advertised for the day which was a shame.
So bums on seats next year and get your buttocks down there.
