this was the first event of this kind we had attempted so at our thursday night club meeting nerves were starting to set in myself and fat piggy had spent the best part of 6 months organising the do and made sure everyone knew what they were supposed to be doing.. SORTED.. a phone call from sheffields finest northern soul dj Barry soon stopped all that." been down to venue, theres no dance floor" he says shit 6 months and we forgot the soulies dance floor "well weve got a big one in main room" my reply didn't seem to help."leave it with me i will sort it" i tell him right johns got a big van and hes not working tommorow soi send him off to get the biggest piece of off cut lino he can find.

F riday night what was supposed to be a quiet night for club members grew a bit when the animals phoned from scotland the week before. its along way from north of the border for 1 night on a scooter so could they stay an extra night. a couple of calls and its sorted we ask the 2 bands we have playing saturday if they could warm us up on friday.word gets about and another local band section 60 ask to join the party. a quiet friday . 3 bands a growing number of scooterists from around the country and a bar the party starts early... no dance floor for the soulies yet tho.. after bidding goodnight to our guests i head for the tent at about 4. 30. am quiet night fat chance.
saturday the sun is blazing. what a bonus just finished a breakfast in the venue when i get a shout. the dance floor has arrived. down to the van and soon realise that we now own the largest artificial wood lino dance floor in the north of england. "how much was that i ask" £170. john answers proudly. "not cheap then" "yeah but its top quality " so it gets laid as stalls and guests arrive. by 1 the plkace is filling up with scooters near and far the first band NAKED POTATO start up the wethers good so they play on the balcony outside they do a fantastic spot and for youngsters have a great future ahead of them the second band THE STOOPS play next blasting out tunes from the jam kinks who and more as well as playing there own songs. superb a look round and yhere is about 600 people really enjoying themselves in the sun.
the custom show is underway being judged by jason from absolutely scooters all the entrants are bang on top quality scooters.

the stoops return to the stage for our competition karaoke to a live band.. it didnt dissapoint and was a great hour of mainly laughter. the tea time session was taken over by s.f.l for a session of dub ska etc. before we knnew it the evening was here the soul dj s are delighted with there dance floor and both rooms are filling up fast I was supposed to be on the decks but couldn't get to the stage for being stopped by people from all over the country wanting to talk and buy me a beer. Sorry piggy..
I finally get up on the stage look round and and see how full the place is, its packed and bouncing.

The tunes go on till 1.30 in both rooms and both dance floors are packed untill the death ....back to the tents a few beers and bed about 5.00 again.
S unday morning. breakfast goodbyes and a look at our now legendary dance floor.. it looks like its been hit with buckshot. lino and stilleto heels dont mix. "shall we save it till next time " says john. no says phil leave the lino lets take the carpet instead!!!
