After
the untimely passing of our member, friend and lifelong scooterist
George Bolton late last year, Gorehounds Scooter Club quickly
got together with the Bolton family to decide on a fitting way
to celebrate the life of a real good guy and keep his memory
alive.
After
discussions between Hector, Tam and Steven from the club along
with George’s wife Lavina and son Gary a fundraising event
was the final decision.
Deciding
who to raise money for was not a difficult decision to make,
as George had died from heart failure then the Braveheart Association
was the obvious choice they provide help and support for heart
attack survivors.
A
soul night at our usual venue of Cambusbarron Social Club was
organised, due to the popularity of George this event could
have been sold out twice over. Lavina sold 100 tickets herself
mainly to George’s family and it was superb to see them
enjoying themselves in the memory of George.
With
approximately 200 people crammed in to the club the bar was
doing a roaring trade as had boots the chemist judging by the
amount of talc that was on the floor.
With
a few guest Dj’s playing all the old favourites everyone
was having a superb evening, with the buffet fast making its
way onto the floor it was time for Gary Bolton (George’s
son) to do the hardest part of the night get up and talk about
his dad. George would have been proud of the way he handled
the occasion! And the way he spoke.
Raffle
over buffet scoffed then the club made a presentation of an
engraved hipflask to Gary who was delighted to accept our gift
on the families behalf.
Back
to the music and our own Tam Hume on the decks he had been nervous
all day but sailed through the set no problems.
All
in all a great success on a difficult evening and a friend well
remembered with approximately £1500 being raised and the
decision that this should be an annual event everyone toddled
off to bed happy.
Thanks
to Cambusbarron Social Club and staff for their efforts on a
busy evening, to all Gorehounds for making the night a roaring
success, The Bolton family for their permission to host the
event. Special thanks to the Braveheart Association for attending
the event, Anjela McGill Falkirk Wasps SC for her help and lastly
but by no means least Audrey Hume (Tam’s wife) for the
buffet and clearing up the mess (a thankless task).
Hopefully
we will see you all again at our rally in August
